About the ADVICE Academy
According to “The Journal Of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA)” estimated prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Sindh province is 16.2% in males and 11.70 % in females; in Punjab province it is 12.14% in males and 9.83% in females; in Balochistan province, 13.3% in males, 8.9% in females; while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) it is 9.2% in males and 11.60% in females. The endocrinologist patient ratio is around 1 doctor for 7.4 million in Baluchistan and 3.7 million in KPK.
Mission Statement
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in urban and rural areas are 14.81% and 10.34% respectively. By these statistics, Diabetes is spread all over Pakistan but with such limited number of Specialists, it is impossible to provide standardized care in all regions while using the current healthcare model.
About the ADVICE Academy
The ADVICE Academy is the multiprofessional organisation for all those involved in medical education. Established in 2019, it provides training in leadership, promotion of medical care standards and support all those involved in the academic discipline and practice of medical education.
The Academy has been described as a ‘professional home for medical educators’ and it will become an increasingly powerful tool for professional growth and continued medical education.
Introduction of Academy’s Professional Approach
Medical education is a field where we promote practices based on knowledge, skills and behavioral changes which positively impact patient health and wellbeing. This requires effective teaching and training methods which are specific for medical doctors, educators and para medical staff.
Imparting medical education not only encompasses state of art medical knowledge but also all aspects of patient care including management of health services, the promotion of health and the prevention of disease.
The Academy's Professional approach serve as a guide to curriculum development and provide a recognised framework for implementation of patient centered medical practices. This gives opportunity to develop a community of health care providers, who then can serve communities.
Aims
The Academy aims to build on the success of the Professional Standards by:
Developing standards for health care professionals, educational supervisors and paramedical staff.
Formally linking measurable achievement in medical education to Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) revalidation process for doctors.
Developing a more interactive network of members for those who are new to medical education.
Objectives
This Academy will provide platform for trainee physicians and act as a focal point for knowledge where they can interact for career advice, training and information about medical education
